Early Fall update

I am really bad at remembering to update every month. We are doing great! I got a job in September and have been working full time which is keeping me busy. I got to go home at the end of September for a surprise 50th birthday party for my dad. I surprised him at work and then 2 days later he was surprised again by a party that my mom threw for him. I had a wonderful time seeing my family and getting to celebrate my dad's birthday even though it was early. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the party :(

Before I got my job I did a couple projects. I picked up this end table for $5. It wasn't the most pretty thing and has some character given to it by previous owners (lots of chips and dings but hey it was 5 bucks). A couple coats of spray paint later and it looks great! I did the same with a coffee table I found at a different thrift store.

            I love how they turned out. A little sanding and paint and waala  furniture that is custom and cute :)

Jonathan has finished his first block of medical school. After each block they have a week or more off that it used for remediation or vacation. At the end of this first block "free week" was his white coat ceremony. Jonathan's parents decided to come out and spend a week with us and attend the white coat ceremony and then go home. It was great to have them here. Jonathan kept them busy by taking them to the national park that is by our house for a hike, they went to a civil war battle field, we took them to our favorite ice cream place, the beach and they also relaxed as well. Jonathan's mom loves collecting shells and the like. She went home with a full bag for her collection.

                                                      

Jonathan's white coat ceremony was really nice. (But it was really really boring. Its just like graduation except instead of getting his diploma they get a white coat.) I just kept thinking that we will be sitting in the same auditorium 4 years from now when he graduates. Here's a list of a few of the things we have done this month.....

Like I said in the previous post Jonathan and I moved out to NC with just the things that would fit in our cars. Once we got here we began our furniture hunt..... it took a couple of days and a few nights sleeping on the floor but we got a bed (#1 on our list of purchases... we are still pretty young but the floor just isn't as comfortable as it was when we were kids).  We then ventured out after our bed was delivered and hit up some of the local thrift stores to see if we could find anything good.  At our first stop we were able to pick up this great dresser.

Our next stop we were able to pick up a 2 month old couch set in brand new condition. Can you say score?? They are really comfortable and we love them. It was our lucky day. We also picked up a kitchen table at the same place.

  We are slowly but surely getting things set up here in our new apartment. Once I get things all decorated, I will post pictures of our new place.

We have done a bit of exploring and driving around to see what there is around here. Here in the south you can drive in almost any direction and within 15 minutes you will be in another town. Kinda neat but they don't have a lot of freeways so most of the driving is on highways and it takes much longer to get anywhere.

My cousin Tami and her family stopped by and visited on their way to South Carolina to their new home. It was really good to see family and catch up :)

We attended the Raleigh Temple.

We went to Wrightsville Beach. Getting in to the ocean that is slightly warm is awesome.

I have been applying for jobs. No luck yet but hopefully I will find something in the near future.

Jonathan started medical school. YAY!! We are so excited and thankful for the opportunity for him to be able to attend medical school. Before school started Jonathan was given the opportunity to apply for a scholarship for med school. He wrote an essay and about a week later we found out that he got it!! Yay a little less money for us to pay back.   

First day of school

June

June…. June was a very busy month for us. We celebrated our 3^rd anniversary. YAY!  We went to the Boyd Family Campout which was held in the Redwood forest this year at Patrick’s Point. It was a very long drive to get there and back but the time we spent there was great. We love being able to catch up with family and for us being able to see everyone one last time before our move. (warning... lots of pictures)

We went hiked to Patrick’s Point and an outcropping of rocks. Unfortunately I forgot my camera but my sister in law Rebecca took plenty of photos.  We also went on a small hike in Lady Bird Johnson Grove (for anyone who has kids this is a great hike for them).

We also went to Agate beach where the water was very chilly and there were lots of cool finds on the beach.

We went on a longer hike (7 ish miles) the next day through the area where Jurassic Park was filmed and it was awesome.

At the end we saw a herd of elk grazing next to the beach not too far from where we had parked the cars. It was awesome to be able to get that close to them.  The biggest in the group was an 8x8 and there were quite a few in the 6x6 and 7x7s. 

We also had an interesting run in with a skunk and a raccoon while cleaning up dinner one night. Luckily no one got sprayed but we came close a couple of times and so did our tent and the raccoon.

We then were able to attend the wedding of one of Jonathan’s best friends the day we got back and after that headed to Jackson Hole for a 10s Rugby Tournament where Jonathan played most likely his last rugby game for the next four years. :(  He had a great time and I came home with a sunburn even after applying a lot of sunscreen the entire day. (the life a a fair skinned person)

The next weekish we spent with family in Meridian. We had a great time with them. One of the evenings we were able to go see Jonathan’s brother Chris and his family and their new home. Then we headed back to Pocatello and packed up our place in a couple days and then set out on our journey across the country.  In the 2 weeks leading up to our 34 hour drive across the country we had already spent at the minimum 48 hours in the car traveling and such. I can tell you that it will be awhile before either of us will want to make a long car drive. Advice to anyone who is going to make a long drive, books on tape are the best I highly recommend them.

Our trip took us 5 days and we traveled through 10 states. We could have made it in 4 but decided to stop early on the 4th and celebrate.

We spent the 4th of July in Knoxville, TN. Their firework show was kinda disappointing the one in Pocatello is much better.

We finally reached our destination and we so excited to finally be here. We love our new apartment.

Beginning of summer

The beginning of our summer hasn't been to eventful but in the next couple weeks it is going to be crazy busy. We have the Boyd Family Reunion in California, a wedding of a close friend, a trip to Boise to see my family and a few other things thrown in there. Then at the end of the next 2-ish weeks we will be packing up our cars and headed across the country. We are excited for our last couple weeks in Idaho  :) I can't believe that is is less than a month before we move. We have been talking about this "idea" for the last year and a half and it is crazy to think that it is here.

We spent Memorial day with some friends at Willard Bay in Utah. We enjoyed the sun and the company.

Big Changes

We have had lots of questions about if and where we are going? If Jonathan has been accepted into medical school? So to answer every ones questions.....

Yes!! Jonathan has been accepted to medical school :) We are very EXCITED!!

 He has chosen to attend a school in North Carolina called Campbell University. It is located in a small town right in the center of North Carolina. We are very excited to start a new adventure.

We have found a townhouse to rent. :) (such a relief to finally find a place to live) I am very excited since it is above ground (we have lived in basement apartments our entire marriage). I know this sounds like a silly thing but when you feel like a gopher and you only see out little basement windows, you would be happy too. We are projecting to leave in June or July and have plans to visit family and friends before we go. Only a few more months eek!!

I can't believe that a year ago we were starting the med school process with the MCAT test and beginning applications. We feel so blessed to have the opportunity to go to med school. I am very proud of Jonathan and all that he has accomplished this past year. Thank you for all of your support and encouragement over the last year. Loves!
